There are very few, if any, household chores that are fun to do, and then there are those that are strenuous as well as being unpleasant. Top of that list would be vacuuming, thanks in large part to having to lift chairs and other furniture items, just to be sure that you reach the dirt and dust trapped underneath. As nice as it would be to hire a maid to the job for you, it’s usually financially out of the question for the majority of folks. That doesn’t mean that vacuuming can’t be outsourced, and now thanks to the iRobot Roomba 560, it’s one chore that can be taken out of your hands, literally.

The Roomba 560 is a robotic vacuum cleaner that will navigate itself around your living space, cleaning as it goes. The Roomba isn’t a new invention, but it appears that the 560 model has addressed many of the issues that owners of the older models complained about. The best of those tend to be its ability to slow down when approaching a solid object, rather than slamming into them like the older models tended to do. The Roomba 560 also has a vastly improved anti-tangle feature and also comes with a blue “deep clean” light that lets you know it’s hard at work on a particularly troublesome area of the room. The new 560 also has a “lighthouse” feature that allows you to mark out a room so that the Roomba will do its work there before moving on to the next room.

The Roomba can put to work with the simple push of a button, or it can also be programmed to vacuum at a set time every day, which is an especially great feature if you are going to be away from home for any length of time. Perhaps the best feature is that its small size means that it can easily get under those big furniture items that we would otherwise have to move with every cleaning. At a mere 16-3/4 by 21 by 5 inches, it certainly shouldn’t have any problems getting into even the tightest of spaces.

The reviews of the iRobot Roomba 560 are mostly positive, but that doesn’t mean that there are no cons to go with all the great pros. The most common complaints seem to come down to how often the unit has to be emptied, especially after using it the first time out. That is an issue that seems to take care of itself when the unit is used on a daily basis. Battery life seems to be an issue for some folks too, and there are some reports that the docking system doesn’t always work as well as it should. Those complaints seem fairly small when you look at the big picture, and smaller still when you realize that you may never have to push a heavy vacuum around the house ever again.
