It has been a little over a decade since the first Roomba vacuum was introduced into the marketplace and in that time the little robot vacuum that could has undergone some changes. Where there used to only be a single unit available, the Roomba pet series now includes a number of different models to suit every household and price range. One of the newest additions to the series is the Roomba 770, and not only is this vacuum smart than its predecessors it’s also a good deal more powerful.

The power comes from the uncanny ability that the Roomba 770 seems to have when it comes to tracking down particularly dirty areas. The technology used to do this is known as Persistent Pass and is part of the Dirt Detect Series 2 system that is incorporated in the 770. In layman’s terms, the unit recognizes dirty areas of the floor and attacks it in much the way that we would be vacuuming manually. That means making several passes over the same area so that the maximum amount of dirt and debris can be removed. The Roomba 770 has been given an increased capacity in its debris bin, meaning that it can easily accommodate the dirt removing power that Persistent Pass provides.

irobot roomba 770As far as size goes, the Roomba 770 comes in at about 3.6 inches high, and weight a little over 8 pounds, making it a sturdy unit that can easily handle a few bumps here and there. It employs a 3 stage cleaning system to ensure that even the smallest pieces of debris are picked up without any fuss, and the dual HEPA filters do a great job of keeping the air in your room clear.

The Roomba 770 uses an onboard software and sensor system known as iAdapt to make sure that it covers as much of the room as possible. That system actually makes it a good deal more effective than a standard upright as it can get into spaces under furniture that would be tough to access without moving the entire room around. The 770 also comes with a pair of virtual walls that allow you to close off parts of the house where you don’t need the robot vacuum to go. Of course, you could also control that yourself by taking advantage of the remote control that comes with the system.

The Roomba 770 can be programmed to perform its duties while you are out of the house, which may actually be a welcome option since this unit is a good deal louder than some of the earlier models. It’s still nowhere near as loud as an upright, but it can still be a little grating on the nerves. If you do program the Roomba to work while you are out, you should make sure to check the full bin indicator which will let you know when the debris bin needs emptying.

The Roomba 770 is actually good value at its price. While it’s still not the perfect solution for homes with stairs, it can handle any other surface perfectly and cleans better than the models that came before. There are a number of companies that are entering the robot vacuum market, but they will have ways to go to compete with the Roomba 770.
